The Phone Book Thing

March 2007 - April 2007

In March of 2007, back when Josh and I had an apartment together our building had phone books delivered to everyone’s door. Like normal people we took ours in that day, but we noticed our neighbor still had hers sitting outside. About 2 weeks went by and she still hadn’t brought it in.

Well then for some reason we all got another phone book delivered by a different company. That one sat on top of her previous one for a few days so we started joking about how funny it would be if they kept stacking up forever. But instead of waiting for nature to run it’s course we decided to speed up the process. We then added ours to her stack.

Our goal was to get it as high as her door. After a couple posts about it all of our friends were eager to help. People brought us phone books every time they came over. We would add to the pile every couple days.

We got it pretty high. And the funny part is that we would see her coming and going and she paid no attention to the stack. I remember one time I came home and her and a friend were out on the deck smoking and I thought to myself “It’s one thing for her to ignore it, but a friend!?” I wanted to know what she thought or if she suspected it was us at all. But one day I came home and the stack had fallen.

We debated on whether or not to rebuild or to call it quits and recycle them. Then Josh had an awesome idea to leave just one and see if she would finally just give in and take it. He propped it up against the door for her to find when she came home. And the next day it was gone.
